Default 2004 Crown Vic heads and Intake on 96 GT?

Hi Guys,

I have a 96 Gt with 190,000 miles it and I've noticed that I'm starting to use oil. I was walking through one of my local salvage yards here in Vegas when I saw that they just added 10 2004 crown vic taxi cabs. Obviously they have a ton of miles on them but I would be taking the heads to the machine shop to have a complete valve job done along with a pressure test and resurfacing. My question is as follows: I can get each head for $80, the intake for $40, have both heads resurfaced and complete valve jobs for $200. I think its a great deal as long as the heads check out ok and for a total of $400 to get practically new PI heads and Intake and it should really wake my car up a lot. Please give me your opinions because I want to do this asap.

Thanks

Davey

Yes, they are exactly 100% identicle to the ones used on 2001-2004 Mustang GT's and thankfully the salvage yards don't seem to know this. For that matter, you can get them off a 2011 Crown Vic and they're the same (though not many 2011's were made).

edit: You'll need a throttle body and elbow from a Mustang. I don't know if the non-PI are the same?

I don't know if it matters but modular engines were made in two factories, Windsor and Romeo. There might be slight differences. Also the PI changes incorporated new cams as well,I think, so you might need to grab them too. Sorry I don't know for sure, but its good to do a little research.

Generally OHC heads are sold with cams installed and yes, PI cams are different.

Also, all 1996-1998 GT's are Romeo and all 2001-2004 GT's are Romeo, additionally all PI Crown Vics (2001-2011) are Romeo, so there's no conflict there.
