Why won't mechanics in my town do a 4.6 head gasket job?

I am doing both. Got the driver side head of last night. No major clues other than a messy repair on the thermostat inlet. The inside is solid though. A few pics from timing it before pulling the head.

It appears as though the right side is a different age than the left or it temps differently on the other side because everything on the left is darker.

Heads are at the shop. New gasket kit, harmonic balancer, and head bolts on the way

Heads at the machine shop $575 for reman and the driver side swapped for a new reman because it was damaged from electrolysis. Said it was an engine ground issue?

Then O'Reily's for oil, coolant, thermostat, misc gaskets, permatex, etc....

Blew about a grand today in just parts....... AYE.

For almost 600, I think would have picked up a set of pi heads instead!

Just stating the obvious that a good pair of pi heads complete is much cheaping and better performing. But what do i know bro.

Lighten up home cheese. I'm totally interested in what you'd do with your money to your car. Won't affect what I do to mine, but by all means..... knock yourself out. I got 4 days to wait for hose heads to be reman. Time to kill.........

Man, thats alot of money to spend on NPI heads. Do you not know about the PI head upgrade or just don't care about improving performance?

I'm in the middle of my PI swap right now and even though my NPI heads are in great condition, they'll probably end up in the garbage.
