Default New Gears

Ok, I am getting my 4.10's installed this weekend on my 02 GT. I have the SCT Tuner, K&N CAI,O/R X-Pipe and MagnaFlow Catback with Magna Packs and 3.5 in tips. I know my stock sized tires 245/45/17's are going to have trouble gripping the pavement.

What size should I go with?

Thanks

1st off, what brand of tire do you have and what are your intentions for the car?

They are Bridgestone Potenza G 019 Grids 245/45/17
I guess the purpose will be mostly fun Daily Driver with some trips to Drag Strip and an occasional Road Course. Since it is a convertible I can't get to crazy with out installing a roll bar. I know that the light bar I want to install isn't good for that but I still like the looks of it. With the 3.27's it has now it doesn't spin the back tires much on a hard take off but with the new gears I pretty sure it will roast em'

You can put 285's in the back and buy some really sticky rubber and you should be good. Something like the Goodyear Eagle series.

Its really not the width of the tire, its the stickiness is whats most important. I had the nitto nt05's and they bite hard. Nt555's are a good choice and I have had good luck out of Toyo's having great traction. There are others out there they do a good job but I have had time on these tires here and recommend them.

Really decide how your going to use the car the most. Manual trans and 4.10s can roast roast any tread. Doesn't matter. If your looking for useful traction. The decide where it will be the most. 90% street 10% strip...I'd go nitto 555's. Remember the stickier, generally the less life span of the tire. Especially when you play often. If your 50/50 street strip. Go more drag radial so you dont hate the 50% 60ft slip.

I have the setup your talking about as my car is a convertible and auto with 4:56 gears and stock tires.. the only way to get traction is to have a full gas tank and drop the top also as these cars are very light in the rear end, you have too take great care trying to beat a red light and the less gas you have in your tank with top up is also the less traction you have, my car hits hard when you floor it and 2nd gear shift will bark hard and will have sideways movement.. i'm pretty much off the gas after 2nd gear so i have no idea what 3rd feels like..lol

Well I've had the set up for a week now and it's is awesome. 2nd gear used to chirp and now it peels!! The 3rd gear pulls HARD... I have O/R X-Pipe and magna pack cat back. It's LOUD and the drone is pretty loud at 70 mph pulling about 2800 RPM. When top is down I don't notice it as much and actually like it. With the top up it is pretty darn loud. Looking into a different Exhaust set up now.

So did you get new tires or are the Potenza's holding up?

I have MagnaFlow X-Pipe and Flowmasters 3 chambers with 3.73 gears. I wasn't trying to make it "Hey look at me" loud, and I love the sound.
