Default Which programmer/tuner is best?

I have a 98 cobra and am wanting to turn the check engine light of because of the rich/lean codes I am getting with my h-pipe installed. I also want to be able to have the correct speed showing on my speedometer due to the 4:10's in the rear. I would in turn enjoy a little more power output because i feel its running conservative to what its potential is. Ive heard bama and SCT but which one is the better of the two? Which has more custom tunes available? Where to buy?

What ever software your dyno tuner uses, youll get the same results from all the brands.

I wasnt looking on taking it to get dyno'd (not at this time anyways maybe at a later date If that's what your saying.) I just wanting a hand held programmer. that will resolve the issues I'm having.

Our Bama custom tuner is actually the SCT SF3! You'll be in good shape with this set up. The Bama tuner is definitely our most popular device, it's user friendly and loads the tunes to your PCM quickly, you can also check/clear CEL's, datalog etc...

Here's a little bit about how we write our tunes!

For every Bama Tune we ask you 19 questions about your specific Mustang, including your unique mods and style of driving. This info helps us write custom tunes from the ground-up for your Mustang's mods that will give you the most horsepower that we can safely deliver. We're also constantly developing our tunes! Between our 14 different Project Mustangs and tons of street/track and dyno testing (on our in-house Dynojet 224xLC), we're looking for any minor tweaks to be made that can benefit you guys.

You're automatically enrolled in our free tunes for life program when you buy the device from us. So anytime you add a new modification to your car just hit up the Bama team and they'll get you a new tune sent out right away!

Please let me know if you have any questions or need some assistance. Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 9AM-5:30PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

Installing a h pipe on a b head 4v shouldn't be throwing check engine codes. A mail order tune is just going to maximize what u have, its not going to fix problems if u have them. Could be anything from stuck IMRC plates, to bad o2 sensors, a bad CTS, MAF readings etc etc. The only way to determine this is evaluation of a data log.

"Which programmer/tuner is best?"

The one which has the better tune, created by the better tuner. The hardware used to flash a tune is irrelevant...

I went with the SCT SF3 by BAMA tuning from American Muscle and it immediately cleared my ck engine light. I dont know why you would think that deleting my cats and having an off road h-pipe wouldnt throw a ck engine light that makes no sense to me. The programming turns the MIL off because of the rear O2's not knowing what to do on the cat delete.

Excuse me if Im wrong but uberstang1 isnt this what you stated in a different thread??

The fact that your check engine light is on in no way reflects the quality of the job or the exhaust on the car, the bottom line is no matter who did it if there aren't cats the check engine light will trip. You have two options here, either buy a hand held tuner and have the rear oxygen sensors turned off in the ECU or buy a pair of MIL elimators and hope they work because alot of the time they are hit or miss. As far as damaging the car or anything, the car will not be affected in anyway possible. The only function of the rear o2 sensors is to check that the cats are working properply, so the only side effect is the CEL.

When u said it was throwig lean and rich codes I immediatly assumed u were refering to upstream o2 sensors not downstream especially since u reffered to them as causing "problems" because downstream o2 sensors in no way shape or form can play any factor in engine driveability or managment, there sole function is to check thay the cats are working properly. Also handheld tuners cannot fix speedo speeds in 96-98 models only a speedo gear or speedcal can do so.

This /\

I don't know why (yes I do) they always leave this part out when they're pitching this product to a 96-98 owner.......
