cam suggestions?

i am helping my dad pick out some stuff for his 96 mustang gt i know for a fact were doing a full pi swap but we are tring to decide on a cam we mainly just want a good sound out of it cause its a daily driver and he drives it from northern kentucky to nashville every friday and back on sundays so nothing radical at all.

If you're just going to cam it for sound don't bother. It take a lot of cam to make a 4.6 lope and when you go that big you have to change pistons, valve springs etc.

I just installed CMS (cushman motorsports) cams. They are badass cams. Check out the website and e-mail them with any questions you have. They have a ton of cam options and some sound clips for you to hear. The best customer service I have ever dealt with and answered all my e-mails within an hour.

Pretty much any Stage 1 cam does the same thing. You'll get a little rumble at idle and a decent gain in the mid to upper range. You'll need a tune cause even Stage 1 cams don't like to idle on the stock tune.

You don't "need" gears but it's highly recommended to make the cams work better cause you'll lose a little low end (even more if you're doing a PI swap).

If its an auto, you'll definately want/need a stall if you want any kind of a$$ off the line.

I am having a similar question too, and was about to create a same thread but with a little different info :)

I have an 02 Gt MT with Unknown catback exhaust and Unknown CAI (i bought the car with these things). Not that it matters much on which brand i have but anyways...
I wanted to go for a supercharger first but then i though that its going to take me a while before i save 5k to get one my self. So i decided to go with HCI upgrades first.

I've got a lot of questions here :), sorry i have no friends with mustangs here in Colorado, everybody drives Evos and Subies.

My plan is to keep the car 450 to 500rwhp, use as DD and street racing.

I figured that its almost impossible for me to understand how camshafts work but which brand and in specifications you would suggest me to run with supercharger and without. Can I pick one brand and w/e stage i need to keep it running without a blower and then with blower.

I got a 98 GT, Auto (will know what gears i got this weekend going to replace wheel bearings, the tag is missing from the diff cover) PI Intake & Heads, CAM ?, BBK Shorty, BBK CAI, P.P. 70MM TB, Magnaflow catback, Tune ?. Any chance you have idea of what it cost to do the comp 262 up grade, is it worth it and would you do it again?

been looking around and very glad i am not paying for this we had figured before hand that springs would have to be changed my dad is not new to building high horse power motors but this is the first overhead cam motor he and i have ever messed with (he built racing boat motors in the 70s and 80s) lol i was worried about spending 300 or so on my 5.0 cam and rocker arms then i realized the cams for this are like 600 each ouch :(

Its expensive doing cams in these motors especially if you need aftermarket valve springs.

My CMS Stage 1's are about as aggressive as you can get with stock valvesprings. Sound great and work great!
