I have a friend that has an 2004 GT. It has developed a leak in the area of the oil filter. As best as I can tell its coming from somewhere immediately above the oil filter. My question is this; is there some kind of common leak point around/above the filter?

Does anyone have a diagram of the filter mount area that they could upload here or email to me?

I think its the oil filter adapter you are talking about. Yes they can leak, just like anything with a gasket can leak. Go to motorcraft.com, enter in the cars info and search for the part. It should include a diagram of the part etc and the associated gasket(s). Good luck...
