Default odd oil leak 97 GT

Hello all
I've got a 5 speed 97 GT 4.6L. Trying to track down a tricky oil leak. I had it up in the air and checked all along the oil pan itself, which is completely dry. The guy I bought it from put in an aftermarket oil pressure gauge (works) but it appears as if that's leaking. I see oil dripping from the frame section under the oil pan a little bit. Wondering if anyone has had problems with aftermarket oil gauges. What size and should the brass fitting be? I figure I'll replace that.

Would flourescent dye help me here? thanks all

George

Just remove and replace (R&R) the sender and use pipe sealer on the threads. You can use regular plumbers teflon sealer or get some of the hylomar type especially for engines. To find a leak, clean the engine completly and start and run the engine in your driveway. This way you can see where the oil is coming from without it getting blown all over by the wind. You can also dust everything with talcum powder and the smallest leak will show itself as a brown stain in the powder.

ok great thanks. I know it is not the oil pan because the oil pan would leak no matter what conditions. Right now it only really leaks noticably when it's been running, so I know it's somewhere on the pressure area. I will eventually spend some time to replace the fitting on the end of the aftermarket connection. Thanks!

Not really, the oil pan gasket surface only gets oil on it when the engine is running. The oil could be coming from just about anywhere above where you see the oil.
