I'm planning to pull my engine out my car but leave the trans in. I'm wondering will I need to remove the oil pan to get the engine away from the trans. The oil pan slopes down by the cross member and once you take the tension off the engine with the lift will I need to remove the pan so I can pull it forward enough to go straight up?
Thanks
Nope sure don't and the tranny should sit nicely on the crossmember under the car while the engine is out.
Not sure what it's called, but right under the oil pan is where everything connects to the front tires. And the oil pan sits almost flush with it. But the back of the oil pan slopes down so if you were to pull the engine straight forward away from the trans it seems like the oil pan would hit it.
If you need pics to see what I'm talking about lmk I'll try to take some.
It will come out through the top - we pulled my 4v 4.6 from my 97 Cobra that way...
Yes, that's what I'm gonna do. But I'm keeping the trans in and for me to get it away from the trans I need to slide it forward first. But if I were to do that it looks like the oil pan will hit that stuff. That's why I'm asking do I need to take the oil pan off once I lift it up a little bit.
