Coil pack
Hi, new to this forum, read a bunch of really good info so far. Have a 2003 gt manual convertible (70k miles) and im doing a tuneup frst time. Never had a car with coil plug boot deals, always had camaros with plugs and wires. So the question is, if I'm doing a tuneup is it recommended that I also change the coil pack or just the plug on boot?
This is what I purchased so far mostly from rockauto.com
- motorcraft plugs
- motorcraft plug on boot (without the pricey coil pack)
- motorcraft fuel filter
- motorcraft oil filter
- also planing on changing the gear oil and manual transmission fluid
- lastly picked up a CAI from american muscle for about 79 bux
I had the car about a year and all I have been changing is just the oil so this is my first big tuneup. I ran over a big puddle a few months back and it was hesitating for a few days until I went on the highway and opened it up really good. About 90% f the hesitation went away but I still have a little. I'm hoping everything I change above will eliminate all the hesitation. By hesitation it hesitates if in a high gear at low speed which it didn;t do before i went in the puddle.... note to self stay away from puddles in the future...

Its good that your are replacing the boots and the Motorcraft ones are the way to go. The coil packs should be ok. When replacing the boots put a dab of dialectric grease on the contacts on each end.
There was a thread on changing spark plugs about a month ago that you should read before doing the plug swap, the spark plug threads are unfortunately a little touchy on these engines.
I'd also clean the MAF on the car, that's a quick job, just need a can of MAF spray cleaner.
