Cleaned the plug hole really good and can see a material difference between the head and the threads, threads appear a little shinier but if it is a heli coil, I don't see the end. Going to get some plug index washers to shim the plug up so I can get a socket on it and hopefully get it to seal.

An alternative is to try and take a picture of the whole and someone on this forum should be able to tell you if it has a coil or not, and possible ways to fix it. Good luck...

Thought about that, trying to figure out how to rig my camera over the hole to take a long exposure shot. I have a 17-40L lens for my Canon 50D that has a 11" minimum distance so it will work, just need to get the camera in place a add some light to help the exposure.

You don’t need a long exposure time. Just snap a picture with good lighting. Or use video and move the camera and light around till you get good shot of the whole. You can either post up the entire video, or extract just the frame showing the whole. Good luck...

I don't see a coil in there man. I'm back to my old theory that you need a coil.

What threads are there do not start untill the hex is below the surface of the head. Have no idea what was done to this plug hole. Dont think I will go with a heli-coil, might drop the cash and get a time-sert kit.

Best of luck to you man, it is not an easy job if you don't know what you're doing. Most dealerships won't even touch it. If that is the case it may be worth your money to take it to a reputable mechanic who has experience dealing with this exact situation.

From what I've read and videos watched, it seems to pretty straight forward, especially if you have used taps before. Maybe someone on the forum has one that they will rent out.
