Yeah it isn't that complicated really. What do you need to know?

Do i have to make my own wiring harness, do the cop's fit with out interfering with the injectors or anything else.

I have a PI intake which actually have the threaded holes for the COP's, i think its from an 02 do i have to have cop's from an 02?

I did it to a car that had a 4.6 DOHC swap so I don't know about interference exactly but everything SHOULD fit. I would do a try run before cutting the harness to make sure ya know? If you have a PI intake though I don't see where you would have a problem. And no any 4.6 pi SOHC (I think the truck ones are the same shape too?) coils will work, remember the DOHC motors have different coils and plugs so be careful where you steal parts from.

I made my own harness for simplicity sake and then connected the stock wiring to the rear of it. Just write up a good diagram and use 4 of the same color for your common wire and 4 separate for each individual trigger wire.

You will have to get a harness, or at least the COP connectors, from a donor COP equipped engine and then wire it up as shown below:

As indicated in the note on the schematic without swapping the PCM to a newer unit that supports COPs the ignition will continue to be a wasted spark system (more about wasted spark systems here). The only significant advantage will be elimination of the plug wires...

Thanks so much, that is exactly what I needed, my intent is not so much performance related it is to get rid of the ignition wires for a little cleaner look and kind of an easy inexpensive project to do over the winter. if its not to cold this weekend i will be heading to pick a part to see if i can salvage a wiring harness.

Thanks again and i will let everyone know how it works out.

Ha ha, nice.

I have set of COP's from another old project and was thinking of converting to them to make room for mounting my turbo where the passenger side coil pack is.

I was just looking at the firing order for the waste spark and figured I could wire the COP's in the same order to the existing wiring to each coil pack.

I thought I'd search online to see if anyone did such a thing without changing the EEC and sure enough the wiring in the photo above is exactly what I was thinking about.
Awesome.

This should clean up the area a bit by removing those coil packs. :-)
