Correct procedure for steering rack/outer tie rod replacement?
#11
At that point I had a second person who guided the steering shaft into the rack as I lifted up to where it mounts on the k-member. I could see how it could be a pain with one person, it does get kinda awkward under there...

I'm thinking about trying to spread out the collar a hair to let it slide on a little easier, but I don't have anything to spread it with. I'm looking for a pair of batter terminal spreader pliers, but can't find them anywhere in town. I'm also thinking snap ring pliers, but the big ones cost $18 at O'reilly's and I don't want to buy them and have them break the first time I try to do this thing. mmmmmm, better think for a while.

the rack is mounted and the shaft is lined up with the rack with the collar just sitting on the top of the rack shaft, I just can't get it to actually slide on to the shaft on the rack.
