Default Posi's, Lockers, & Spools.

When I get the KB 9# i'm going to upgrade the clutch and rear end. SO in saying that I was curious if anyone has had experience with the Auburn or Eaton positraction units. Also i've seen a couple of my buddies use lockers such as Detroit lockers on there drag vehicles, but I thought those were mainly for 4 wheelin and off roading? Also, I have no idea how spools work, can anyone enlighten me?

(I'm also going to get a set of 31 spline moser axles)

They use a locking rear on their drag vehicles because they are just for that, drag racing. It locks both wheels so they turn at the same rate no matter what (ever left the hubs locked on a 4x4 in 4 wheel drive on pavement, then tried to make a turn, you skip around the turn, same effect here). When going straight down a 1/4 mile, this works out great.

I don't know about the rest, this is just my two cents.

Honestly if plan to drive the car alot just get a rebuilt stock unit with extra shims added. The lockers engage and disengage rather abruptly and spool is not really for street use. You could check into an air locker, it gives you a open diff for cruising and fully locked one at the touch of a button.

I really don't want a locker unit. Rather follow the posi route. Do you think it would be wise to get a Posi LSD off of an Explorer then? I mean posi trac ain't gonna make daily driving difficult and I don't know what exactley the differance is between an Auburn or Eaton posi compared to a stock Explorer posi. I know the Explorers use the same 8.8 and I could get a set of 31 spline axles to match.

Like JD said get the stocker rebuild. the locker can be a bitch on a rainy day going around a curve and locking on ya. A spool basicaly ties to two axles together its like alocker engaged full time they suck for street use.
