1997 Cobra - Temp Sending unit question
1997 Cobra - Temp Gauge Not Working well
I am in the process of replacing the intake/Plenum gaskets and have the coolant Crossover tube out. Both the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor Part#12A648 (New) and the Water Temperature Indicator Sending Unit Part#10884 (old) are mounted in this crossover tube.
Which part sends signal to the gauge on the dash? I am guessing it is the Water Temp Indicator Sending Unit Part#10884.
If so, what is the difference between these parts? When I log onto a number of sites to find this unit I only get one part, which one is it for? Is there a Ford Part Number site I can confirm a RockAuto or Autozone part?
How do I test this sensor?

if i had to guess 10884 would be the sending unit for gauge and 12A648 is for pcm not sure why they needed 2 differnet for same job. Hell I made it worse and added another one on the block for a real temp gauge

FInally have this car ready to go, now on to this fix (Temp sensor)
Finally got this 1997 cobra (only exhaust cat back mod) back on the road. I had a number of codes, 174,171, 308, and a few others. Replaced all intake gaskets and this car now runs great!! Thanks for all help on this site for the info!
Repairs still remaining:
odometer worm gear, replace MAL light, fix temp sensor gauge, cruise control, and temp sensor.
Since I had no history on this car replaced #12A648 for the computer but did not replace the Water Temperature Indicator Sending Unit Part#10884. How can I test Part 10884 and where can I get one online? Is there a replacement part number? Can I used the old 12A648 for the 10884? I know that sounds dumb, they look the same and have the same connection
