Default Mustang Paint Question

I just purchased a 2003 GT that is the Amazon Green. Under the hood on reverse side it is black and as well all under hood area minus fenders is black. Is this correct or should it be green to match the rest of the car like other colors?

*Carfax said "Clean no accidents", but this has me wondering...

Hope someone can help and thanks!

Sorry to post on my own post, but not sure if you can add/update a current post. The color is known by some sites as amazon green and other places I have found it called tropic green. The paint code is the same "SU".

Thanks again.

It should be green everywhere. That doesn't mean it was crashed, though.

Thanks for the response. So why would under hood and engine bay area all be black? Any guesses?

I went to a Ford body shop yesterday and they confirmed car had been repainted on areas such as hood, hood scoop (That you can see red due to paint chip.), front and rear bumper, fenders, and possibly back quarter panels; but couldn't really tell if it was due to paint fade or wreak. They did say that from eyeballing it nothing looked bent and they couldn't see any welds. So I guess that is a good sign.

Just I find it odd under hood and engine bay area don't match car when all others I have seen do.

I dont know the process of how that color green is applied at the facrory. But if your car is a tri color what you are seeing is the basecoat and it could be a really dark green and not black or if it is black maybe that is the color used to make the green pop once the other 2 coats are applied. If you look under the hood of almost all cars it will only be the base boat kinda a waste to clear under the hood for mass produced cars

No, my son has a 2002 Tropic Green GT and under the hood, inside the trunk, and all other places not normally visible are obviously the same green color as the exterior.

To the OP, go to www.etis.ford.com, click on "Vehicle", and then enter your VIN. When you get the return there is a link on the right side of the page for more information about your car. It will tell you every single option your car was equipped from the factory with, including the interior and exterior colors.

Here is his engine bay. We are pulling the motor because it needs to be rebuilt. He just bought the car. You can clearly see the engine bay sheet metal matches the exterior color.

VTX1800N1 you keep posting that Ford website but I get nothing for my car and to me it looks like it is for Ford of Europe not US?

All three of my Fords work on that site. I'm in the US. Are you sure that you aren't confusing a 5 for an S or some other problem with your VIN?

Here's my F150 on that site. You can see the extended fuel injector warranty is listed and every option is in the right side:
