Default Mustang GT 1997 check engine

So my father was like an expert mechanic over the years and my mustang gets very bad gas he believes its just cause its a mustang. That and he doesn't trust the OBD trip off. It says my oxygen sensor is dead. My check engine light trips off now and then. So could it just be that? My car had a previous owner and has 156k miles. He just doesn't think it's the sensor he had never checked but assumes from past experience

Take it someplace and have the codes read. You cant guess why the check engine light comes on.

I said I had gotten checked lol but I don't wanna replace the bank 1 sensor 2 for no reason unless I should or if its not actually a true reading as other things can set it off. Even if its the sensor 2 is it worth replacing?

Whick o2 sensor is it? if its an upstream sensor it could have an effect, if its a downstram sensor they just check operator of the catalytic convertors.

not really, now that your light is off, you will know if you throw a code in the future because the light will come back on. its never a waste to fix something correctly

Check engine light is BS, I just pull the bulb on it. If there is truly an issue that will affect the vehicle u would know it, EX. a misfire.
