Default Timing chain cover damage

Ok the bolt that goes into the timing Chain cover (ill just say tcc for short) to hold the tensioner on would only turn so far then loosen back up. Took it off and noticed that there was a chip out of the treads that stick out a little from the tcc. So i am in a pickle.

I can drive it and be fine but believe its a time bomb of when it will let go because without the tension from the belt you can move the tensioner forward and back in and away from the block. Im afriad the only fix is a new cover.

Does anyone know a way to replace the missing threads? And how hard is taking the cover off? Valve covers and pulleys and some nick nacks to take it off?

You may be able to drill it out a bit an get a thread insert to go in there.

heli coil or some other kind of repair, but how long it will hold is any ones guess.

You may also be able to fill the hole with Jb weld , drill it and retap it.

My money would be spent on a new cover though.

Covers are cheap. Catastrophic repairs are not. Just buy a new cover!

New cover is probably what i will do.

Since there are four bolts from the oil pan going to the tcc, is it likely that the pan gasket could get damaged? Wondering how likely that possibility is

Ok got it. Does the front main seal have to be replaced? If so how is it done?
