Default Oil filter Adapter Leak

My 1996 Mustang GT (4.6 V8) vin 1FALP45X7TF203514

The symptom I have is oil is dripping from the oil filter adapter housing at the point of a small weep hole, (the size of a pin) on the bottom of the part labeled F62E - 6A642 - AC.

My question is, does this part, (6A642) come apart and are there o-rings inside it also?

I have purchased OIL COOLER O-RING GASKETS & HEX TOOL KIT 1996-2004 COBRA/GT/BOSS kit
http://www.speedconcepts.net/product...roducts_id=967

I am concerned that the gasket and o-ring kit I ordered will not solve my problem. After removal and closer inspection, it appears to me that oil should not be getting to that weep hole at all.

There are essentially three parts: the adapter that bolts to the block, (has oil in, oil out and coolant passage); The filter adapter 6A642 that has coolant circulating around the oil passages and a threading steel pin that goes down the middle of the whole thing to hold it all together AND provide the center passage for oil to the filter.

Thank you for any help.

I don't believe that hole should be there, hopefully someone else knows. if you don't mind getting rid of the oil cooler, you could use the 99-04 gt oil filter adapter.

You may be right, but I will say the weep hole looks pretty darn intentional to me! Perhaps I will go to the Ford Dealer and see if they have the replacement part, just to inspect it, (the part is over $400) to see if it has a weep hole or not. However, when this whole thing started, I stopped and asked about it, the technician said he had no idea what I was talking about.

Ok, turns out there are more 0-rings inside the oil filter adapter. The weep hole is there to let you know THOSE O-RINGS HAVE FAILED! The good people at speedconcepts.net provided full explanation, pictures and parts. Will post when up and running.

Update. I got the o-ring kit from speed concepts.net and took the oil cooler apart. Bad news is the inside edge where one of the o-rings seals is slightly corroded with pits, ( I cleaned it really well to be sure). I suspect this will not seal well.

So any pointers to eliminate the oil cooler with the 99 part as school boy suggested? Any experience doing this, I asusme ford wanted there to be an oil cooler for a reason !

You can find both the oil cooler design or the non-oil cooler design in the for sale section in the forums. Look for someone parting out a car. Either design will bolt right on and work, im just not sure why Ford stopped using them on the gt's.

Thanks school boy. I sourced the no-oil-cooler version. Thankfully I have another car to drive, so I will not get the part for a few days.
