Clutch pedal problem

Hello all!

I bought a used '98 GT. I love it. There's a clutch problem though. I've iwned it since December and it takes three guys and a donkey to push in the clutch pedal. I'm on my THIRD clutch cable. Any thoughts as to what it could be? Pressure plate? Do I need a new clutch? Thanks guys!

Sorry guys. Duplicate post

i suspect that somone has installed an aftermarket clutch that has a higher spring tension, only way to know for sure is to pull the trans and get eyes on it. if thats the case, going back to a stock type clutch instead of a cluch capable of 1100hp should fix your problem

I have driven several cars with aftermarket race clutches and they weren't even a fourth this hard to push in. You may be right. I'll have the spring tension checked out. I broke the back of the seat just a little bit ago trying to push in the clutch. That's three cables snapped and now a drivers seat.

yeah, but so many clutches out there, i had one i remember well, 95 5.0 with a procharger, and full cage, it was a pain to get in and out of due to the cage, and the clutch pedal was a double footer, made driving it nearly impossible. the customer seemed to enjoy it but i would have thrown that cluch in the garbage first chance i got lol

Oh I definitely want to throw this one in the garbage for sure. Haha. It's def a double footer. After driving it I get into my daily driver and almost put my foot through the floorboard because it's super light and my leg is now heavy. Hahaha.

agree with aftermarket clutch being the problem,

Same thing in my car had to replace it, previous owner had at least a 6-800hp clutch with no other mods. broke 2 cables before I replaced it.

Stock one is much nicer to drive and can handle 350hp more than enough for my stock engine

DoctorScary 03-20-2015 07:47 PM

I made an appt for monday to have it replaced. $350 parts and labor I guess isbt too terrible. I've worked on cars all my life but they've been automatics. I've never messed with a clutch. Stock clutch will be just fine. I doubt this car even makes 250 horse. It's kinda tired.

Would the clutch problem also cause my car to stall the instant that I put the car in reverse?...

jwog666 03-21-2015 12:43 AM

no on the reverse stall, i would also recommend having them inspect the clutch quadrant (its on the clutch pedal assy. where the cable attaches) the factoy ones are plastic and dont take well to the extra pressure, i replace them with an aluminum piece and a firewall cable adjuster to make it bullet proof
