Clutch Slipping

Clutch Slipping
hey guys. got a bunch of work done to the car last week to get it driveable. 96 GT 5 speed with a remanned trans T-45 and a brand new clutch. the clutch seems to slip at wot. i got the firewall adjuster tightened down all the way. if i loosen it then the engagement on the pedal is a lot higher. i know engagement should start when the pedal is 1-3 inches off the floor. right now id say its at 4-5. how can i resolve this problem myself? ive already smelled clutch a few times so trying to get it done really soon before im looking at yet another new clutch. thanks for any info!

stop driving it till u get this figured out, Adjust the clutch by turning the Cable Adjuster. Be sure the clutch fully releases when
the pedal is depressed, and the clutch is fully engaged with light tension on the cable
when the pedal is released. pedal height is not a good indicator of adjustment

ok thanks. im taking it to the shop tomorrow. trans shop was giving us problems so they are putting in a short throw for free. im gonna get my mechanic to check over the clutch again. the adjuster is tightened all the way down so im guessing it would have to be done by adjusting the cable at the fork? is it possible that the clutch is not "seated fully"? ive heard tell that there is a break in period but i always thought a clutch was a clutch. you put it in and go

even a break in wouldnt period wouldnt mean clutch slippage, did u replace the quadrant on the pedal assembly as well? if not that could be your problem, the factory one is auto adjust, and should be replaced with a solid piece

i stopped in the shop today. gotta go back tomorrow. i believe the quadrant has been replaced. i didnt do the work on it they did. my mechanic said theres holes on the quadrant where the cable can be hooked in different places. gonna try that tomorrow and hopefully that fixes the issue. guy said theres nothing on that cable that allows adjustment on the fork and since the firewall adjuster is all the way tight hes thinking he needs to use a different hole on the quadrant. sound right? i trust him with diesels because hes done alot on mine but ive never owned a car. let alone a gas vehicle so im in a new world here

thats right, one hole is for a firewall adjuster, the other hole is for use with an adjustable cable. go to steeda's website and look at the install instructions, or if u have a different brand go to their site, i bet its engaged in the wrong hole, when in doubt read the instructions. good luck.
