Default top speed limiter

is there any way to get the top speed limiter off on my 98GT besides buying a chip?

I'll second the tuner. I read some companies claim that they can raise the limiter. Why do that when you can just turn it off? I don't think that mine was set, cause I hit 148mph on I-10. I know, I know, too dangerous. I was on the open road between El Paso and San Antonio. If you've ever been there, there's about 400 miles of not a damn thing there. I waited until I could see to the horizon with no cars in sight. I dropped it into third and let her go. Well, I was just curious, won't do it again.

I hit 136 with my 97 GT when it was stock.... why would you need to go any faster?

I had my 97 GT up to 120 on I 355 in Illinois... was plenty fast for me. I was whizzin by cars like crazy, and I don't see why on a daily basis that speed would be neccessary.

Usually you don't even go that fast on a 1/4 mile....

I don't plan on going extreme fast because my luck and just murphy's law, anything that can go wrong will go wrong, especially like if you are bookin at 140 down an empty road and say a deer comes out (in the country somewhere)? Or a kid?? Safety of other people is always a factor... I'm just happy that I can be pinned in the seat when I nail it from a stop... :-)

The fastest I've ever been in my 03 GT is 130mph. Is there a governor on the 99-04 models?

I have a 02GT it seems to limit it to 149mph that thes fastest I got and the fastest the tires are rated for I think thats why they do it

If your car came with 17in rims there is no governor, 99's with 16in rims are governed, at 120 i believe, this is due to a lower speed rating on the smaller tires.

Hmmm, I didn't know that. I could have sworn that my buddy said his had a limiter and he has an 04 GT too. Maybe my memory is gone or I was thinking about somebody else. I did hear it was at 120 though.
