power estimation?
 

Hey guys i have a 1999 mustamg gt 4.6l 2v and ive been hearing alot lately that my car should be making more horse power than it does with full bolt ons my list of mods is:
cold air intake
72mm throttle body
typhoon intake
shorty headers
x-pipe
flowmaster 44s
2000 stall converter
shift kit
3.73 Gears
under drive pulleys
msg ignition system
and i have a Diablo 93 octane tune on It but when i had it dynoed it only made 258hp and 285tq at the wheel.
is that a decent for the amount of mods i have to it or am i missing something?

Get rid of that diablo chip and I bet you see a better result. You don't really have any true power adders, the 99+ 2v engines made about 265 HP stock configuration. Your intake and other add ons are not really adding any real power. To do that you would need to got up to 4v heads/cams. If that diablo chip was a preprogrammed chip it is probly hindering your performance. You could probly gain 25-30 hp with a custom tune at the dyno.

That's not bad considering you don't really have many power producing mods. The tuner, x pipe and underdrives is probably what gave you the extra 30hp. The intake more than likely robbed a few.

Why do you think the intake manifold would rob a few?

For anything under 500rw, and especially N/A, the stock PI intake is pretty much unbeatable.

Aftermarket manifolds like the Typhoon, VicJr, TF etc generally show at least slight gains over 5K rpms but below that lose a noticeable amount to the PI. IMO, aftermarket intake on a relatively stock engine is somewhere between useless and counterproductive. At a bare minimum, you need cams capable of making power above 5500 rpm in order to begin realizing any gains from one of these manifolds, and really also heads and exhaust.

If F/I then it may be a different story, but F/I changes the equation almost every time anyway so...

As far as the Typhoon in particular, they are not known for their excellent casting or quality control. Generally recommended with them is some additional hand porting and general cleaning up as most people notice a bit of left over casting slag on the edges of the ports.

Agreed. I thought about buying the typhoon but heard to many horror stories. They do look good tho.

I used the TFS intake on my old car even before the supercharger and it made a bood bit of difference.
