If you know someone who's experienced you can do it yourself. I installed my gears with my uncle. It took us about 12 hours totall time but I think it was worth it instead of paying someone like 3-500 bucks.
It is, you or they will have to have some special tools though.

Now im stuck between 4.10's and 4.30's..lol WHICH ONE?!?!?
Look at it this way, if you get the 4.30's you won't be regretting not going with a shorter gear LOL

They are a BLAST and will reallllllly wake your car up. You'll wish it was the first mod you did.

Yeah you just need to find some shop that will press new bearings onto the pinion and differential. Other than that, you don't really need special tools, just a lot of time and patience.

Basic Rear Prices

Gears Ford Motorsport approximately 225.00
Conplete BEaring /Install Kit 100.00
FLuid 10.00
Optional Synthetic Fluid 30.00
Labor should run you between 150.00-250.00

At my shop I charge 475.00 Installed for gears and 500.00 installed with Synthetic Fluid. Make sure you do research on the shop you decide to go to. Anyone can install gears. Can they install them properly checking Pinion Depth and Back Lash is the question. It is expensive to do and unfortunately somewhere down the road when the gear generates a wear pattern that is not normal and starts making noise you will be stuck as nobody is going to warranty them being a performance mod.

Good luck.

As far as Gears go I would alos spend the few dollars for the Ford Motorsport Gears. They are easier to install with less chance of noise. There are other brands that re less expensive but tend to be noisy.

My warranty changes based on the brand of gera I install. I have done hundreds odf set ups. Certain brands and ratios all make noise no matter how perfect you set the shims up.

I did it on a 66 Mustang and had to have a accurate inch-pound torque wrench to set the pinion bearing preload and a dial micrometer to check the ring backlash, in addition to pressing on the pinion bearing. Not everyone has a good torque wrench and micrometer, but maybe different tools are used now to set up the rear end that I am not familiar with.
