Default Loose antenna

I just noticed yesterday that my antenna is loose. Not just the mast, but the whole base moves. I looked for some way to get to it. Looks like I'll have to remove the inner fender liner, unless someone knows an easier way.

On my F150, you carefully pry the plastic cover off from the top and there were a few sheet metal screws that could be tightened. I think I had to remove the mast first.

I'll give that a try. Beats the heck out of taking out the fender liner.

I tried to but the screws just turn and don't tighten. I even tried applying a little upward pressure, and they still wouldn't tighten. I did shim it up a little with some white styrene plastic cut to the shape of the base. It's a little better but not tight. Looks like I'll have dive in and take the fender liner out.

I finally fixed the loose antenna. I removed the screws and took the base from the fender only to find someone did the old overtighten on the screws, pulled them through the sheet metal. Looked like 3 small volcanoes. I took a 1/8 inch punch and a small hammer and tapped the holes flat with the fender surface which in turn made the holes smaller. I reinstalled the base and screws, which required some force to get them back in because the holes were smaller. I tightened them just beyond snug. The antenna and base are now very secure, no more wiggle. It was a free fix, and free is good.
