I've got a 97 gt that does that in 2nd and 3rd gear when cold and goes mostly away when it gets warm, but still rears its head every so often.

I have not rebuilt the transmission personally myself, but I have heard from a lot of other mustang owners on this forum that it is not too terrible, especially since it is a manual transmission. Just get a book on the transmission or a book that includes it and follow it, as far as I know it's simple removal of gears in a specific order and vice versa with new soft parts.

I have plans this spring of taking a manual transmission class in which we are allowed to bring in our own transmission... so I will be rebuilding it there.

Do a search for transmission rebuilds and I am sure you'll find something else on here.

I hoped I helped some! Have a great one, back to class (yes I'm at school now)

Before I would spend that kind of $$$$ on a rebuild I would look into a new TKO 500 or 600.If you decide to go the rebuild route, use a REPUTABLE shop that rebuilds your original tranny instead of an R&R shop.

I'm gonna baby the trans until I can pull it out at home and then rebuild it in my tranny class.... should be able to keep it under $300.... need to find a rebuild kit..... what I will do and you should consider is while it's apart replace the clutch too... I'm going either Ford racing or centerforce stage I...

^^^ What he said. Buy the TKO and you'll be able to build serious HP down the road without have to worry about grenading a tranny. The 3650 is okay, but can't handle the loads the TKOs can. Money well spent if you're serious about power.
