Default Car Shuddering at idle and under slight acceleration

So the title says mostly all of it. Just bought the car 4 weeks ago, everything has been great but.... I've just recently had a problem and im worried. At Idle it will sound like a misfire and it did that the first 2 weeks. But today it got worse, then when we was driving through some curvy roads in the state park I got behind a slow driver and when the RPM's are low it just runs rough and hesitates. It clears up when it drops a gear and goes above 1500 RPM. It's a 96 GT only mods are flowmasters and a cold air. Any help is appreciated. Just hoping it ain't my trans.

I drove it today about 20 miles and it ran just fine. But I looked online about the MAF sensor if you unplug it and the car still runs the sensors bad. Is this true? Because I did that and it ran like normal with the sensor unplugged.

it could be bad, or you could just be changing the air fuel to cover up the real problem, by unplugging the MAF the pcm sees a problem, and reverts to running on tabled data (a value for MAF that will keep the engine running) this will result in inaccurate fuel metering, and could cover up the real issue, the real way to determine if the MAF is bad is to look at the data that the pcm is receiving from it, BARO measured in Hz and air flow measured in g/sec. before taking it in, or replacing the MAF, google "cleaning MAF" and try that alot of the time they are just dirty due to over oiling of reusable air filters, or they simply have a bug stuck to the wire. good luck

Default Thanks for the help!

Thank yall for the help, im new to the Forum and since I just bought the car I reckon I'll go ahead and change the plugs and wires and clean the MAF while I'm at it. One thing I did notice is after I ran it pretty hard (Riced out Hyundai on I40) she has ran pretty much normal since. Confusing the you know what out of me.

Car has 106,000 miles on it too if that matters. I also know the original owner and got it for a deal.

Default Dirty fuel filter

I know this post is old, but just helping anyone else that might come up on it. I ended up changing my plugs, wires, and coil pack (had a code for misfire on number 4 cylinder) after that it ran really good, like a new car. But when I hit overdrive it did the same thing. It seems like it did it only in low gear. After feeling defeated I did some thinking and replaced my fuel filter. After about 15-20 minutes of steady driving the car has never run better or felt stronger. The old fuel filter was filled with a dark goo. Now I'm very happy with the car. Thank you all
