Default Goes dead when I turn key to Start

2000 GT Premium Auto --72.000 miles
Awhile back, it made a funny noise when I used fob to lock doors, battery drained the next day. Friend told me this can happen.
Currently -- dead.
-- One day I used fob to lock while rushing to close door, and the whole thing went dead.
-- Since then:
A-- had it jumped a couple of times, each time got it out of driveway, then dead
B-- Now (new battery). When I turn the key to On, have lights, chimes, etc.
When I turn key to START, a click, everything is dead. If I disconnect and reconnect the battery, I get the same thing.

I attempted to pull the door lock fuse, but I am too big to get under the dash, with the door hitting garage wall.
Friend mentioned that the battery cables are old, but I keep thinking the security is cutting everything off
It's not the fuel pump, I changed that 3000 miles ago and cleaned out the system with the Lucas Oil product, it ran great.
--- a problem is that I have been only driving a mile to the market, etc, 2-4 times per week, which I realize is not good.
SUGGESTIONS PLEASE? thanks

Check all your connections, mine did the same exact thing, and it turned out that the cable was loose in the ground post on the batt

Default NOW I GET THE THEFT LIGHT

I read about rusty gound connection
I cleaned the ground

Present state:

Connect battery
Interior lights work
Turn key to ON -- all lights across bottom of dash are normal
Turn key to START -- flashing THEFT, everything else dead
Nothing works unless I disconnect and re-connect battery

I need a small person to come over and get that fuse out maybe?????

Any Ideas would be appreciated

Bad ignition switch? Not where the key goes in.I had an older Ford where the key activated a rod, that went down the steering column to a switch.

could be a bad alternator if the battery is being drained. i just had a problem with my 4.6 the alternator was overcharging the battery causing it to kill the battery.
