i had an issue with both of my front end calipers. i changed the brakes and drove around for about 2 days and happened to notice my rotor was bluish like you described. after jacking up the front of the car i tried to turn the wheels by hand and it was quite difficult.

pulled the wheel and caliper off and had someone depress the brakes while i was looking at them and only one of the pistons were working. ended up both calipers were bad. picked 2 up at oreillys for $45 a piece.

that was for the front though. not sure how much they are for rear ones.

so I completely took apart both sides. I see that both the (for lack of the known word) springy spots where the calipers screw on* on my bad side are a 1/2 in shorter than on my good side. are they adjustable? because that seems to be exactly how much room I need.

yes the slide pins appear to be my problem must I replace the whole bracket or can I fix this?

Not necessarily, the first thing is to determine if they are stuck or frozen, you should be able to slide the pins in and out, if you take the rubber boot off you should be able to pull the pins all the way out of the bracket.

If you can do that the pins are not your problem, if the pins are frozen and you can’t pull them out there’s a good chance this is your problem.

I have successfully taken an air chisel and drove the pins out of the caliper bracket, put the caliper bracket in a vise take you air chisel and hold it on the end that the caliper bolts to and with a little luck they will come out, cleaned the inside of the bore, buy new pins and booths.

I’ve done this on my daughters Acura about a year ago no issues so far.

Another way to go is with a remanufacture caliper, they normally come with new brackets and pins

Good Luck

Yeah, stuck pins could also be an issue like WJL pointed out.

http://www.americanmuscle.com/2005-b...d-install.html This is for the front pads but the same is applicable for the rear and the pins.

In step one the caliper has a couple of yellow circles around the dust boots where the pin are. These boot pull right off and and will give you access to the pin underneath.

Remove the pins and clean them thoroughly. Then grease them and make sure they slide smoothly. Then put the boot back on.

Item 5 on this parts explosion is what you're looking for if you want to be specific.

after putting them back in even with out new oil they look better so I think that is what it needs. if I press on the slider it goes down to where it was before but it then extends itself that missing 1/2 inch I'm looking for I got 100 bucks atm what would be my best approach I don't mind replacing the whole bracket if they are cheap
