Default 2000 GT spun bearing

I have a 2000 GT with 72k I bought it last summer and noticed the car knocking. Pulled the motor to find I had a spun bearing. I have been trying to decide what to do. Have been looking for a clean good running 4.6l to put in my car. But can't seem to find anything worth buying. Also found a few 3v motors but I am not 100% sure how much work it's going to be. I'd like to try and keep the price below $2000.00 thanks

a 3v swap is pointless as you dont gain much power for all the extra cost. if you are looking for a swap that is worth the extra money you would want to swap in a 5.0 out of an 11 and up mustang. both will cost alot and require a ton of work. you wont touch a reman or new shortblock for what you are budgeting, so your options are to set the bar a little lower and settle for a used engine, or save some more

jwog666,
Can the OP have his crank machined and install properly sized bearings?
Wouldn't that be his best and most economical option?

if it spun a bearing, it also damaged the rod journals, so you would end up rebuilding the rotating assembly, and they you would check the bore to measure wear, and find it has some, so then you wold end up rebuilding the entire short block. not to mention that there is metal contamination in the oil passages due to the spun bearing which will require the block to be cleaned. so no, its not economical.

If you can do the work yourself, machine work should be around $1500. Parts maybe $500 or so if nothing is too damaged to reuse. If there is too much cylinder wear, add another couple of hundred if you have to replace the pistons.

Junk yard motor would be your best bet.

Yeah for that budget range I would check around to places like LKQ and other scrapyards. I got a really good trans from LKQ a few years back and even got a 2 year warranty on it.

I would 4v swap the car. A budget 4v swap can be done for $2000 pretty easy. I would find a 97-98 Mark viii pull out. Already has an intake manifold you can use, c.o.p valve covers which saves a chunk of funds.
