I've been looking at a 2004 Ford Mustang GT Deluxe Convertible 5-speed manual with 109,597 miles on it and it's selling for 7,739 dollars the car looks in good condition but I fear it may have hidden issues If I go through with it and buy the car I will get a pre purchase inspection. I wanted your thoughts on it first. Is it worth it? Is it reliable? Should I even consider buying this car? Do you see many of these cars? Are these cars safe to buy with over 100,000 miles on it?

109k miles is nothing, my last 2000 gt had 241k and it was still a solid running car with no problems at all. I still sold it for 3200.


7k give or take is about what they are asking for them on craigs list. You could probly talk it down a bit.

If you have a link to an online ad (dealer, private seller etc) so we could see what you're looking at, that might be helpful.

Otherwise, if the car is in good condition then 109K is just barely broken in. Seriously. If you find one of these cars in good condition that has been maintained reasonably well and not abused/neglected, these are very durable, reliable and otherwise solid cars.

I would advise that you, at your own cost (figure probably 1hr of labor charges) take the car to a shop of your choosing and ask them to go over the car and look specifically for any signs of abuse/neglect or other possible things that might be an issue in the future prior to purchasing the vehicle. If the seller will not allow that then walk.

As far as price, that can vary regionally so my best advice there is find other comparable Mustangs on Autotrader or whatever and see what they're going for. The asking price sounds a little high but if purchasing from a dealer then that's to be expected vs buying from a private seller.

I have that same car with 81k. That's higher than I value mine,(sorry,I on the east coast) so I say it's top dollar.It better be top condition for that number.
Is it one owner with a service history?

If it's young Tony Testosterone's racer,where he's trying to recoup his mod expenses,I'd walk no matter what the mileage or curb appeal..

If I were you I'd go with a 2005 or newer Mustang.

The chassis were built a lot stiffer than the 2004 were.
