If you want to get to 300 rwhp your going to need to swap the heads intake and cams. A 4v swap would get you close, then its little things to make up the rest, like LT headers and a good cat back system.

The 98 mustang gts only make about 220 hp at the crank,, and loose a small chunk by the time it gets to the wheels. So your not going to gain 100 hp with simple stuff.

I cant really recommend you any cams, I dont know alot about the cams on the 4.6l. A stock cam PI swap will get you to the 260hp range at the crank, as far as some good after market cams go I would call a shop that custom grinds them or that deals in aftermarket cams and explain your goals. They will want to know things like where in the rpm range you want your peak power, and how many rpms you want to spin up to. They will be extremely helpful in helping you choose a good cam setup for the PI swap.

Be mindful, that still is not going to get you any where close to 300 rwhp,, you lose about 15-20hp in the drive line depending on what transmission you have Auto vs Manual.

It may be a bit more expensive but a full 4v 32 valve swap would be the better option.. Get on line and find you a busted up LIncoln Mark Viii with a good drive train and engine. You can usually find them cars pretty cheap. But their 4v 32 valve 4.6l engine is the same engine they used in the cobra mustangs it makes right at around 300hp in stock form,, with some good long tubes and a good catback that engine will get that car moving quick.

Just as a reference, I have a 96 with PI heads and stage 1 Comp cams and bolt ons (stock exhaust manifolds and H pipe though) and only put down 260HP on a dyno. Its an automatic as well.

What's the suspension like? First and only thing I did with my '98 GT was suspension; that 4x4 bro dozer look has to go...
