I admit that my numbers above are on an '05 GT, but across the board, no one produced more than 2-3 hp with the shorties. (I believe the car had a cat back on it, too.) And that was dyno proven. Look at the Nov issue of MM&FF. However, I did make one huge error: the FRPP shorties for the '05 are much better designed than the 01-04 version.

Yeah, LTs are best, but tranny work sucks more if you have LTs. Besides, the FRPPs won't affect my warranty. Most of the others won't either, provided it doesn't make it more difficult to work on the motor for the Ford mechanics. If it does, there are a lot of dealerships that won't touch warranty work with aftermarket parts, even if they are FRPP.
hell have you seen the maniflods on a 05 they are huge compared to the 96-04. if i had a 05 06 i don't know i would even do headers.

is their a point to putting shorties on? It seems like there is so little HP gain that its not even worth getting shorties.

total crap. My BBK shorties+BBK catted X-pipe+tune = 13.65 down from 14.06. OK, you can argue the tune added some HP, but ti wouldnt give me that much of a gain. The dynos I read indicated the HP gains from good shorties(BBK) was almost as high as the LT's. but you got to get rid of the f-in ****ty stock CAT's guys, that is where the hold up is!
Did you run times and figures with JUST the shorties and not pullin the cats and other exhaust mods? That was the original question. Agreed that the cats block a lot of exhaust exiting but shorties vs longtubes.

the BBK equal-legnth shorties are "OK" but you can look in to Bassani mid-legnth headers also. they are pricey but nice if you have the cash

long tube is low end

shorties top end.

long tube headers work great even the cheap ones(not that i recomend the cheap ones)
shorties you need to get a good set such as the bbk's for them give you any hp.

the way i figured was a 4.6 makes all its power on the top end so thats where i need to focus on building power.

yeah the only thing that sux is ppl with automatics such as myself. every longtube i have seen says for 5 speed only. i hear the SLP LT's work cuz there is alot of clearance but those damn things cost so much. i might just see if i can get a shop to do some custom job to make them fit but then i gotta get a new mid pipe. hmm i wonder if shorties will give me any power with my mods since im kinda heavily modded.

hey guys what the difference between the two headers..

which one give u the most power?
which is the direct fit?
what ones do u have one?
What brands are good for my 96 gt

plz comment thanx
With a 4.6, espcially a non PI one, shorties are a complete waste of money. MM&FF did a shortie test on a 4.6 (with PI heads even) and they only picked up 2-3 RWHP thru the powerband. This is terrible for the investment in money and time.

Longtubes are the only way to go.

Gee Bob, thanks for the glowing review. However, while you entertain the concept that your tune produced some of the horsepower gains, you neglected to emphasize the catted X in the HP equation. Your X pipe and tune were 95% of your power increases. Shorties, by themselves, offer little gain, but like any header, long or short, when coupled with a better flowing mid pipe and exhaust, they offer much more in the way of power production. You also discounted your CAI and larger Accufab set up, neither of which bumpinwheels95 seems to own.

My point is that shorties ALONE did not get you from 14.06 to 13.65. I seriously doubt that LTs ALONE could do that either.

Then again, after over over 25 years of driving in general and several Mustangs, it is possible that I failed to learn a single thing. Glad you were here to help me realize that.

I think I'll go call my therapist now. I'm feeling my self esteem ebbing away by the second.

I would like to see FULL exhaust set-up power comparisons instead of just LT's vs. Shorties.
