Default Timing (advance/retard)

Ok, I would like to know what I should do to my timing?
I have the diablo, and I can advance it or retard it.
I am a newbie to engine timing and etc... basically computer tuning.

What will I see the most(if any) gains from?
I was thinking I should advance it a little bit.

also: would it be worth buying the steeda MANUAL timing adjuster?

THANKS

good question... I have a friend with a 5.0 and he advanced his timing and got some nice gains from it... why must our 4.6's be so !@#$ expensive lol. Some one please give some answers here, as well as what octane to run..

Lol maybe that's the best setting then. Maybe some1 has more experience with it. I'd jack it up as long as it's not pinging. If it does, just lower it, but don't retard it.

I think I read that the 2V come with 10 degrees advance. Running premium fuels, the most I've read people running is a total of 13-14 advance. Probably more with race gas. I'd advance 1 degree at a time and watch for detonation, then scale back 1 degree.

Dont go over 12 degrees because it hurts your 1/4 mile but helps in the 1/8 though. Change it back to around 8 degrees when normal driving because it needs the fuel

Yes advance the timing as much as the Preditor will let you with the Diablo tune (93 octane). I read an article where fordmuscle.com put an 01 on a dyno with the Diablo tune and only got 3 more HP than stock. The called Diablo Sport and they said to advance the timing all the way, they did and got a total of 10hp over stock. You need a subscription to read the whole article though.

Here's the results
