Clutch not disengaging
i have a 2003 mustang GT 4.6, I’m having problems with the clutch not disengaging. At first it wouldn’t happen until after 20 minutes or so of driving and then I randomly wouldn’t be able to put the car in first gear or reverse. I could force the car in to second and then it would seem like it was shifting fine, but I still wouldn’t be able to get into first gear once I stopped. I’ve inspected the clutch cable and saw nothing wrong with it. What could be causing this? I think the cable was replaced with an after market one by the previous owner, should I change it back to the stock cable?

You have to take out some slack from the cable. Either at the firewall adjuster ( assuming they used one ) or at the quadrant on the pedal. Pulling up on the pedal gives more slacke. To take the slack out you have to push the pedal to the floor while laying on your back and use a large screwdriver to hold the quadrant assembly still, then rais the pedal. It will click as the paw rides the teeth on the quad. You should be good with 1 or 2 clicks.
