Default Need help with my A/C!!!

Hello Mustang Forums,

I have had my mustang for a little over a year now and my heater core just went out, this is my first major project that I wanted to do on my own. Unfortunately, I jumped into it too eagerly and forgot to have my Freon evacuated. Now my car is sitting in my garage without a dash and all I have to do is remove the hoses for the core. I know these hoses are under pressure, so I am stumped and stuck. My local mechanic told me to slowly unplug the hoses and let it drain slowly, but that sounds like a mess. Just wanted to get a second opinion.

Any help would be very appreciated, I think I am going to make another post soon regarding some other inqueries. If this post is in the wrong section let me know!

Check at the bottom of your radiator, there could be a petcock valve there. Not sure all radiators have them though. Or you could crack open the thermostat housing just slightly to relieve some pressure. But make sure you have a drain pan handy to catch that fluid.

Just drain the radiator via the petcock valve on the bottom of it, as mentioned above. You don't even have to drain all of it, just maybe a couple quarts.

I think he is referring to the A/C lines that enter the firewall. The A/C need to be purged and the lines disconnected to get the heater core out.

I think the solution is tow the car to the shop and have the system purged.

If you are a betting man you can disable the srs/airbag and drive it there without the dash but you will have to figure that out on your own

Buy the necessary equipment and do it yourself

Follow the bad advise from your mechanic

Look up mobile air conditioning services in your area, and see if they will come out and recover the refrigerant. Probably cheaper than having it towed somewhere to have the refrigerant removed.
