I am looking to purchase a 1998 Ford Mustang but it has a broken odometer. I spoke to the dealer and he said that the car is in good shape mechanically but that it will be sold with a note that the odometer is broken. I understand this is a very common problem with 94-98 Mustangs and I know the fix is not too much. I live in Maryland and I am unsure of what I will need to do to get the car inspected. Will the fact that the odometer was broken prevent me from getting the car approved for road use? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

as long as the odometer reading is more than the last time it was "inspected" or registered, you should be able to get it through without them even knowing it stopped working

I also have 98 GT and had a broken odometer. Mostly likely the plastic gears broke. You can buy them on ebay for about $10. It's a pain to get to them but at the end it is a easy and cheap fix. Good luck!
