Dude, I realized that after attempting to post a photo. Turns out I didn't know what I was doing. If I am unsuccessful attaching a jpg this time, I think you can probably visualize what I was describing. The photo helps, but you really need to look under the hood, better yet use a breaker bar to rotate the tensioner to observe the arc that it takes, then you will understand where I'm coming from. If you enlarge the photo it's obvious that the shorter belt I got yesterday is too long (witness where it goes over the alternator pulley), but if you look closely at the belt routing over the pulley on the tensioner it shouldn't be too hard to see why the tensioner doesn't do anything unless the OEM belt is installed properly. going from the compressor clutch pulley to the tensioner pulley.
