Installing 3.73 gears

What year car are we talking about here? For early SN95's, you cannot alter the speedo ratio using a tuner - you will need to get the correct speedo drive gear and swap that out when you change the gears. Not certain, but I think the New Edge cars had the electronic instrumentation package, allow you to alter the ratio using a tuner.

With the earlier ones with the gear, the speed-o will be off, but should not go into
a limp mode? The ones that need the ratio changed in ECU, will see the engine
overspeed condition without it, and set the CEL, and the trans will go into limp mode.
SO, if it's all mechanical, and he can live with the speed-o being off, then it's good?
I mean, I remember when you could swap gears and not have to do anything, unless
you wanted the speed-o to be accurate...

My car is a 2001. I would not mind doing a performance tune on the car. I bought it to have fun with and I have other cars I can drive for economy purposes. I just don't want to tune it for more than it can handle. Don't like having to buy engines.

You can't tune it for more than it can handle... No tuner will net you more than +30 HP,
so there is no danger in that, ever. IF you were to supercharge it, that's different, now
you're forcing air into the chambers, and there is only so much they can handle. If
you're motor is old and tired, it will show with a supercharger...
I mean, you can custom tune and mess it up, and cause damage due to error, but
buying a tuner, coming with at most, four tunes, isn't going to hurt anything.

Awesome, I am going to look into this. 30 more horsepower would be a good thing. I haven't even gotten into it real hard yet. Have only had the car for 10 days. The guy I bought the car from said the engine has about 30k on it. From playing with it the little bit I have it seems really strong. Still has the 19# injectors though. Something else I want to change.

Being a lot of different topics is my fault.Thought I would ask questions about several things I was wondering about instead of starting a new thread for each one. I am new to the mustang world and have lots of questions about different things.

no worries. Just ranting. Ask away what else do you have
