Transmission problem

Default Transmission problem

I just bought a 96 ford mustang gt 4.6 and the transmision wont shift i believe its in 2 and wont shift to 3 or 4 idk what to do with it now and tranny shops trying to charge me 2200 dollars of i drop tranny to look at it or 2500 of they pull it and i would rather work on it myself. But dont know alot about trannys

If you don't know a lot about tranny's why would you want to work on it yourself? I'm all for learning as you go but, unless you have guidance from someone that has experience rebuilding transmissions (and preferably experience with your type of tranny), you're just going to get in over your head.

For starters, what's the fluid level like? It could be as simple as that or it could be as complicated as a complete rebuild.

Did you knowingly buy the car with the shifting issues? If not, I would go back to the seller and demand your money back. Small claims court if needed for failure to disclose a catastrophic failure on a vehicle that renders it unable to driven.
