As the title suggests, my 02 GT has this rattling noise that's been going on for about a week now. I am praying to god that it is not a rod knock, and I really don't think it is. But I figured I would ask here to see if anyone might have some insight. Anyway, when going through the gears, I hear a metallic rattling noise around 2k-3k rpm sometimes a little bit lower. No rattle when I'm idle or under 1k RPM. Anybody have any clues what this could be? Is this possibly a rod knock? Or something minor? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Update: my father and I checked out the motor further. Looks like the car most likely has a rod knock. ****, my, life. Anybody have tips on swapping motors? Lol. Seems like that's the plan now I guess.

Bump: Does anyone here have experience with the 4v Mark VIII motors? Would this be a good motor to swap to? Also, what could I use from my 02 GT on the 4v Mark VIII (wiring harness, ecu, etc.) ?

Not only is it a good swap, but its a great swap. Also a very popular one. Depending on the year Lincoln you find your gaining between 30 and 40 hp, its the same engine they put in the 4.6L cobras. You will find plenty of information on the internet about swapping one into your mustang.

Check intake and exhaust valves. they can make that noise.
