Default block heater?

Hello all~
Got a 97 GT 5 speed. The guy who originally bought it opted for theh block heater. I'm gonna have to drive it in some cold weather, and I was wondering if anyone knows if it works and how I should use it.

The book says 3 hrs minimum to get it really warm, and overnight is ok too.

Thanks!

George

There will be a plug somewhere near the engine compartment, extension cord style... Just plug it in and give it time to warm up... unplug it and start it up.

You don't need it unless it gets extremely cold... getting down near the limits of your coolant/anti-freeze... You may want to check to see the temperature that will prevent freezing down to too.

okay cool. I live in northern Illinois. The guy who originally bought it opted for it. I just find it cool that it has it. This winter I will plug it in overnight and un plug and start it in the morning.

I guess the heater comes on quicker with that?

One guy told me to rip it out because it's a waste of space. It can't weigh that much. Although if it works why get rid of it. Needless to say this guy is a complete moron, he doesn't know his a** from a hole in the wall.... so his opinion will be disregarded :-P

Have a great one all

George

Probably a decent amount. I think it is more of something you plug in no more than an hour before you plan on starting it... will save power and won't be a hazard.
