Do it right and save your money for a catless mid-pipe & a new catback exhaust.
I totally second that. Having no mufflers doesnt add HP. No cats, will add HP.

No CATs with NO O2 simulators = loss of HP. Without CATs on the car there is no back pressure in the exhaust which will screw with the oxygen sensors. I'm not looking to lower my ET, just get a little more sound. I've tried this set up with a F-150 before, all CATs and no mufflers, and actually it sounded great. The only difference is that the F-150 was a 5.4, so thats pretty much the only reason I'm hesitant about doing it with the stang.

no cats=gain, plenty of peaple have done it and its proven to work
no mufflers=sounds like chit

OK guys. Just got back from the muffler shop. Removed both mufflers for only $50. $50 WELL worth it!!!!! I didn't want to remove my CATs because I didn't want my "check engine" light to come on. I removed the mufflers and it actually sounds awesome!!! OF course not as good as a $350 exhaust system, but after hearing what I have.......$350 isn't worth the money.

I have BBK O/R X and Flowmasters and they sound good
