Default Checking Plugs (04 GT)

Alright, I'll ask here because there has to be something I'm missing.

I got my nitrous kit installed, and I have no more fuel leaks, hooray! I want to use it now, but I figure I should run it for 5 seconds or so, then stop and check my plugs to see if it was detonating, even a little.

About checking my plugs though... I can't get the coils off without taking the fuel rail off (and part of the intake with it) is this normal? Or is there a better way to check the plugs... It just doesn't make sense to me to have to dismantle half the stuff on top of the engine to be able to get the coils off to take a look at the plugs.

I can take my coil packs off with out taking the fuel rail off its really no big deal. just unbolt the coil and pull it out of the way.

btw befor spraying did you change the plugs? You will burn up platnuim plugs with nitrous.

I've got the factory plugs, and don't have coil packs, it's an 04 GT and has one coil per plug and no plug wires... coil-on-plug ignition. The coils are under the fuel rail so I guess I need to remove it to get the coils off to be able to get to the plugs.

I've just got a little 75 shot and gave it a try today and was very mindful of detonation. I ran it for approx 5-6 seconds and pulled it out of gear and let it fall back to idle... it was idling ~100-200 RPM higher... and still does, but it makes no strange sounds... I'll pull all the crap off and see... maybe get new plugs before I do.

Still, isn't there a better way to get to the plugs? Too much stuff is in the way. [:'(]

You should be able to get the coil out from under the fuel rail. Also, I "would" run a colder plug.

the rubber boot gives enough to get the coil out from under the rail.

Yeah, just take off the nut that holds the coil pack down, turn the coil pack, then pull off. Its that easy. I can do it on my 04. Without messing with the fuel rail.

Alright, thanks all.

I'll definitely pick up some plugs that are one heat range colder soon... better to be safe.
