Gears for GT

RE: Gears for GT
If you care about going faster, but gears won't add power. The gas mileage difference will be minimal and I doubt you would even notice it. I loved my 4.30's.
I miss the feeling of the shorter gears, I'd def install some gears in my Cobra.

So pretty much, the higher the gears (3.73 compared to 4.30) the faster my time will be? So it's all on if I care more about power than MPG??

thats pretty much it. with really steep gears like 430's, if you got good tires and hook good, you will lower your times by several tenths

I went with 3.73s for a few reasons. The MPG was part of it, but I usually only drive the car on the weekends. And when I do drive it, I am usually going someplace 2 hours away on the highway. I just didn't feel comfortable with having it revving to high for hours on end on the highway.
I dunno if I would go with 4.10s even if I could do it all over again for free. I do know I would never do 4.30s with my style of driving. On a T-45 (or a TKO) you would probably be close to 3K RPM at just 70 MPH!!!. I don't care what you say, it cannot be good to turn the engine over for that long at that high of RPM. If nothing else, think of the extra wear on the engine.
I hate it when people just recommend a gear ratio before asking how you drive the car and how it is set up etc. I still do not think a 4.10 geared car would be worth a **** without drag radial type tires. Doing big burnouts and getting powerslides between gears might be fun, but it isn't usually fast either. Not to mention all the other things to think about.
But in the end I guess that it isn't that big of a deal. If you screw it up its only about 350 bucks to redo it again (minus a retune for the speedo, don't forget to do this or the odometer is screwed up too BTW).
