OK, so I know most of you don't like the auto tranny GT, and right now I wish I had a 5 spd but when I was looking to buy my 1st Mustang back inMay I came across an 02 Gt that was owned by a 73 year old granny that only had 13k miles on it. it looked and smelled like brand new and I got it for only 15,000$ Everyone else wanted 18-19K for the same year with allmost twice the miles. Anyway, I'm wondering what the dissadvantages of the auto are and what mods I can do to the driveline. I already have done the upper intake mods and have a magnaflow catback sitting in the garage waiting to install this weekend. Everyones talking about gears, but what do I need for my auto?

You need a shift kit for sure. I hear it's expensive though and install is expensive too.

no disadvantages. your at an advantage if you want 1/4 mile performance. get a stall converter and gears and you'll be in great shape when you get the car to hook up. I have a 01 GT. theres a guy with a 02 GT 5 speed at the track running 12.03 and wishes he has an auto cuz he thinks that'll get him in the 11s to which he is so close. but no 5 speed can touch a stalled auto with the same mods. just can't shift as fast as an auto. i firmed up the shift points with my diablosport but you can get a shift kit for like 50 bux and that'll work great as well.

What gears? I noticed in the factory specs that the autos are factory geared lower .

get a handheld tuner before you go with the shift kit. you might not need/want a shift kit if you get the tuner. you'll probably still want the shift kit, but you might as well go with the tuner first and maybe save a few $$.
