how does a short shifter save your tranny?

how does a short shifter save your tranny?
People have told me getting a short shifter will help extend the life on my transmission. Whats the logic behind this? How does it make it "last" longer? Thanks for ne help.

The only way a short throw shifter will help "save" your tranny is if you shift hard. Short throw shifters come with stop bolts so you can slam into gears as hard as you like without affecting the tranny. If you just granny shift and gently place the stick into gear then it really won't help the tranny, but it definitely won't hurt it. I like mine, it practically throws itself into gear.
