Pulley intall question??
Hey i was installing my pulleys today and it got to dark so i had to stop. But my question is when im installing my Crank shaft pulley how is the best way to get it on. I started to install it and it does not want to go in very far. I used a rubber mallet but still not a hole lot of movement. Im sure there is some easy trick. Does it only go on so far then you just put the bolt back in and screw it in. Can i use the impact wrench or do i want to just get it snug with a rachet, then tighten it to specs?
Sorry for so many questions, just want to figure it out so i can stop car pooling to school.
Thanks for any info.

RE: Pulley intall question??
I wouldnt use the bolt to do that you run the risk of damaging something and dont beat it on either as that not a good way to do it. They make a tool for installing this and you can rent it at your local parts store or tool rental place. What you need is a harmonic balancer installation tool. It makes it much easier and for what it costs to rent it its way cheaper than the damage you might cause doing it the otherway.

RE: Pulley intall question??
I've installed two sets of pulleys on my '04. My first were the MAC piggyback style, but that caused a CEL light. I now have Steedas on. I used the impact to remove the old, but not to install. Bad idea.
If you can get the threads started well, that will work. Usually, the company supplies the longer bolt for the install. Put some black RTV on the key slot too. I'm told this helps to prevent a small oil leak at that location. Make sure you get the torque specs on that. They are very sensitive (at least mine is) to that. On the '04 its like 66 fps, back off one turn, tighten again to 40 fps plus 90 degrees. Don't quote me on that, but I think I'm close.

RE: Pulley intall question??
I just bought steeda pulleys and I haven't had time to install them, but I looked into it and I read it is necessary to gently bang the crank pulley in with a rubber mallet. Anybody else actually experienced this?

RE: Pulley intall question??
I really like mine, I also have the Steeda U/D pullys and had the car dynoed before and after the install (shop installed them did the dyno at samy time) and saw a gain of 8 RWHP on a auto. I would defently get them!!!!
