New Shocks and Springs
I want to improve my handling on my 98' cobra, what does it need? I know some cars need new shocks, some need new springs, what do the cobras need for improvement. I also want to lower my car the most i can without any problems. My exhuast shouldnt be a problem, i have stock headers, o/r H, and SLP catback, it doesnt hang low at all. Thanks a lot

Does the 98 Cobra have IRS? My friend had a 99 Cobra and he lowered it, it looked much better and handled better, but better handling= stiffer ride. Gotta give up something though.

i think IRS is only in the 99+ Cobras. I fine with loosing some ride quality, I need something to improve my handling, also i think it looks great. I bought the steeda strut tower brace but i need something more.

My 96 GT needs some improving too. My next move is going to be the Eibach Sport System Kit. It comes with the Eibach Sportline Springs (2in. Drop) and Eibach shocks/struts to accomidate for the lowering springs. Comes out to be around $525 on www.tirerack.com I believe. But I've heard nothing but good things about this system and the ride quality is unbelievable for a 2in. drop. I should have the kit next spring.

RE: New Shocks and Springs
I installed Steeda sport springs, Tokico struts & shocks with KYB quads on my '98 GT vert it it now handles 1000% better than stock. No comparison whatsoever. I also installed the Ford Racing rear upper control arms which further stabilized the rear end. Next is a strut tower brace to further stabilize the front end. More than a 1.5" drop and you have to start changing many of your other front end parts to correct its geometry otherwise you will wear out both your tires and suspension prematurely. I think the Steeda springs lowered my car around 1.25", maybe slightly more. Handling is great and ride is smooth on good roads. Badly rutted or torn up roadways can cause a pretty rough ride at times. I like the Steeda springs for two reasons: 1) Steeda claims their springs are mfg by the leading supplier of suspension springs to NASCAR and 2) when installed properly they add a very nice rear to front rake to the car....just check it out on the link below. Oh, ya, don't forget to install new urethane spring isolators at the same time, the rubber stock isolators wear out and compact fairly quickly: http://maximummotorsports.com/isolators.asp
Here is the link to my '98 GT vert to check out the lowering: https://mustangforums.com/albumphoto...e=1&sortType=6
Good luck with your choices and enjoy your ride!
