98 cobra tranny on 97 GT
i just got a t45 from a 98 cobra off of ebay for a pretty good deal. is there anything different between the cobra and gt tranny? i need a new throwout bearing so I know to replace that, but should i also replace the clutch and shift fork? if so, what clutch would I need? how hard is this to accomplish in my garage? sorry for all the questions, but I need to get this done asap! thanks!

I'd go ahead and replace it. You already have it off and easy to work on. Go ahead and replace it. It will save you time and money in the long run.

will I have to modify the transmission crossmember?

what tranny does your car have? i thought they both had about the same tranny? unless you have a T-5?

it is a t45, but i have read that the holes to bolt up to the crossmember are an inch or 2 back on the cobra tranny.

I got a "cobra" t-45 once (off ebay, then I just got a remanned unit) and it had a different tail housing. However, it was a 98 or something trans, and my car is a 00. It also had the mechanical gear pickup, and my car used the electronic one, so that my have been the reason it was difernent.
T-45 are junk BTW. If you could pick up a 3650 cheap it would be a much better trans. |

RE: 98 cobra tranny on 97 GT
ok, I went to dallas and picked up the tranny last night. it seems to be in really good shape, guy claimed there's only 25k or so on it. according to Hanlon, the transmission to crossmember mounting point on the Cobra t45 is 3.86 inches farther back. would it be easier to drill out the spot-welds where the crossmember meets the frame and move it farther back, or swap the tailhousing? also got my MGW shifter, man this thing looks awesome! any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
