need advice for 97 GT clutch
Hello all~
I have a 1997 mustang GT five speed. This coming spring I'm rebuilding the tranny and it will also receive a new clutch. I want one that will give me a bit more grab than stuck but retain the life. I'm lookin to get maybe 30-50k miles out of the clutch, because it will be mostly cruising. Only occasional romping, and it may see the track rarely if at all.
I've been told that the zoom clutch with the kevlar disc material is a good clutch for the mustang. My friend's friend runs it on his and beats on it all day long and it works fine still. Would this be good? Or should I get a ford racing peformance clutch?
Any input would be great, just regarding the clutch. I'm in school to be an auto tech. so that's why I'm rebuilding my trans and not swapping it... need to learn! I've done a lotta crap before though I'm not intimidated by a huge project. Anyway though let me know about the clutch.
Have a great one all

With no power adders then you wont need much. I would suggest a Ford Racing 11" upgraded flywheel and clutch Assy. You can get it for about $250 and its a great clutch. Thats what I had in my 2002 GT.

Well, I wouldn't go all out with a quartermaster ultra light 8" clutch assembly but the 11" ford racing unit is kinda big and heavy. There are smaller lighter clutches that clamp just as well or better. Try giving spec and call and see what they can do for you. They offered me a discount over the phone when I called as well.

I thought of spec but thats kind of an overkill for a stocker I thought. I liked the FR Heavy duty I had in my GT. The oly reason I dont like driving the Saleen in my garage is because it has a spec.
